About John Griffin

Excerpts from an interview with JOHN GRIFFIN:

What advice do you have for hiring managers?
This is a tight market, meaning that solid employees are scarce.  So when good talent comes along, be prepared to move fast.  Just as you can lose good bank customers by being slow to respond, I have seen too many hiring managers take weeks to follow through on a decision to hire that was made after the first interview.  Candidates grow cold to the idea of change the longer the process drags out.

Any advice for candidates?  Don't lie or exaggerate on your resume.  As in life, honesty is the best policy.  At my firm, we are all former bankers who can spot a fib quickly.  More than likely we will learn the truth and will have to advise the bank.  This will end weeks of courtship and interviewing every time.

When did you join BankersforHire.com and what did you do before joining the firm?

I joined BankersforHire.com in 2004.  I spent the majority of my career working my way up the retail side of the bank.  Prior to joining BankersforHire.com, I had a successful career consulting with large and small banks in the areas of capital equipment, retail delivery systems, teller software, network communications and core data processing systems.

I know the firm's niche is banking; however, do you focus on any specific type of position or geography?  Not really.  I am a "generalist" within the banking niche.  I help CEOs, SLO and CFOs with a wide range of positions ranging from lenders and branch managers to accountants and key operations personnel.

When you are not working what do you do for fun?  I have 3 children and 1 grandson who keep me on my toes.  Out side of spending time with my family, I enjoy playing tennis and golf, and my wife and I are quite involved with a marriage ministry through our church.
